Ellie Gale and Finn Bass produced outstanding performances to help Herts to victory in the Lionel Cox trophy at Queenswood over the bank holiday weekend. Herts have now won the trophy for the past 3 years. Herts finished 2 points ahead of Essex, with Cambridgeshire 3rd, Bucks 4th, Norfolk 5th, Suffolk 6th, Northants 7th and Beds 8th.

The annual competition is run for 10U, 11U & 12U for boys and girls. Ellie represented the girls 11U team winning all her group singles matches against Suffolk, Essex and Bucks 6/2, 6/3. In the final she took on Cambridgeshire National player Anna Loughlan. After a nervous start, Ellie mastered her opponent and windy conditions, triumphing 3/6, 6/3, 10-8 to maintain her 100% record in the event. This victory helped the team to a 2-1 win. The girls 12U team captained by Ian Zellner also swept the board and finished first.

Finn Bass won all his 4 singles matches over the weekend, beating his opponents from Suffolk, Northants, Beds and Essex. He helped his team to gain 3rd place. Finn has now played 21 matches for Herts and won 20 of them.
